MyMedic MyFAK First Aid Kit

Bring first aid wherever you go

Being prepared wherever you go is essential for anyone. No matter the travels that lie ahead, you want to prepare the best you can so if faced with an emergency or crisis moment, you have what you need to handle the task in front of you. Having a first aid kit is one of those items often overlooked when thinking of preparing for the worst. A standard first aid kit is a good idea, however one built with durability, adaptability, and side of the road-middle of nowhere you’re covered-ability is a whole other level of preparedness.

myFAK

That is exactly what the team over at MyMedic created when they developed the MyFAK First Aid Kit. The MyFAK (aka My First Aid Kit) was designed with three goals in mind: to be (1) Adaptive, (2) Functional, and (3) Indestructible. This First Aid Kit can be taken essentially anywhere you go-from a day at the park with the family, a backpacking adventure, off-road travels, and even tucked safely in your trunk in case shenanigans go down at the grocery store parking lot. If you're out there, the MyFAK is perfect to bring along with you!

INITIAL IMPRESSIONS

When our crew initially unpacked the box with the MyFAK kit we thought “is this a full on medic kit!?” The MyFAX we unboxed was durable, red (other colors are available), and self contained inside a ballistic nylon carry case. The kit was an instant hit right from the start. The weight of the kit alone had us thinking this was no ordinary first aid kit. Something about the kit screamed “rugged” and we felt like this was something worth unpacking to uncover just what was inside.

INITIAL IMPRESSION

MyFAK By MyMedic

One of our resident writers/reviewers is a former Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and their first comment when grabbing a hold of the kit: “legit kit.” The heavy duty carrying handle, instant access rip-away velcro panel, and fold-out detachable mech pocket provided for a unique twist on fast access to first aid, while being securely stored inside a heavy duty carrying bag. On the top of the bag/kit, the D-Rings are securely fastened to attach a shoulder strap for alternate carrying- in any weather or condition (because it is weather resistant). The kit sure has durability written all over it- and that's even before we dove into what was contained inside the kit.

Our overall duuude first impression: If it is as legit on the inside as out- we may have found our favorite product of 2019.

UN-PACK THE MYFAK

Now that we have taken a look at the outside of the kit- it was time for our crew to dive in and open this bad-boy up to see what first aid functionality it provides. When we unclipped, un-zipped, and laid out the kit we found the kit to contain a rather large set of neatly organized, secured, and grouped first aid supplies. The MyFAK we reviewed contained the following first aid “type” supplies in the “Advanced” kit.  MyFAK comes in both Basic and Advanced Kits.

Topical

While the two various kits come with different supplies (depending on if you grab the Basic or Advanced Kit), the components we reviewed for this post were those included in their Advanced Kit.

When we opened up the MyFAK, we found a 3-compartment (or sections rather) kit that house the first aid supplies. The kit opens up to two larger sections where most of the kit essentials are housed and one section that contains most of the topical ointments, medication tablets and gloves.

Upon reveal of the inside kit, we found each type of first aid supplies to be well thought out and neatly arranged in a systematic grouping. There is nothing like being in an emergency, and then there is really nothing like not knowing where the heck stuff is to help with the emergency. The MyFAK groups together the various supplies (such as medications) in a neatly contained, grouped, and securely attached/housed system. For instance within one zip lock bag is a set of medications, while the airway supplies and other breathing support components are also grouped together in another component of the kit.

We mentioned ziplock bags and we can’t say enough about the simplicity yet critical aspect of the kit. For most small items such as one time use Benadryl, sunscreen, and other oral/topical use components, the kit neatly organizes these smaller items into ziplock bags. Those bags are easily stored and grouped together for clear view and fast access. In other sections of the kit, larger items such as trauma shears, rescue blanket, and bleeding control dressings are neatly fastened with elastic straps, hidden compartments under the main compartments and velcro secured in different sections. These little touches are spot on with keeping things in a logical manner so you can find them- when you may not be the most logical in thinking.

MyMedic

Other key features are the instructions that come with most of the supplies. The thermometer for example has a set of instructions and some of the other kit supplies include how to use information. While MyMedic makes it clear in their disclaimers that they are not responsible for the use or the “how to use” actions of the purchaser, they do throw some people some bones for what the supplies are for.

The MyFAK itself when folded up, clipped, and clicked measures at 8.5 inches tall (sitting up on a table), and 4 inches thick (when laying down flat on a table). When completely unfolded and laid out the kit is approx. 23 inches in length. The kit holds 1275g in volume and is made from 600D nylon.

The MyFAK makes for a great starter first aid kit as well as a great all-around carry kit for anyone who wants to have the basic essentials for a wide variety of needs. No, the kit won’t let you start and IV, perform open heart surgery, or remove the parts of your uncles personality nobody likes at Thanksgiving dinner- but it will help you handle basic first aid needs in the moment crisis hits.

STANDOUT FEATURES

While the MyFAK is a hit there are some standout features that knock this kit out of the park.

  • The kit doesn’t skimp on supplies, quality and variety- no knock off junk here

  • The adaptability of the bag allows you to restock with the same supplies or add new ones you find valuable to include

  • Its durable- toss in the car, throw on a bike- doesn’t matter where you go the kit can hang with you (metaphorically and literally)

  • The kit contains a variety of first aid supplies- almost any scenario has been thought out and put in the kit

  • Compact design gives the kit good storage for supplies

  • Clip and Velcro features give the kit a wide range of carry options

The kit stood out to our crew and instantly became something we didn’t know we needed until we dove into the product. Solid work MyMedic.

BONUS FEATURES

As an added bonus, each MyFAK is both OSHA & ANSI approved. For those who don’t know, these two regulatory organizations oversee safety and standards for products such as these kits. In addition to being approved by both these organizations, the MyFAK is also an FSA/HSA approved purchase- allowing you to tap into your health spending accounts to grab a hold of a kit. That’s awesome.

MyMedic

Let’s talk discounts shall we? One added bonus that MyMedic offers are discounts for those who are Military, Firefighters, Law Enforcement, EMS Personnel, Students, and Teachers. Simply head over the the site, grab your discount code, and let the discounts rain like summers in Florida.

The last bonus feature worth mentioning is the ability to restock and reorder any supplies-any time from MyMedic. The goal is to never have to use the supplies (‘cause that would indicate you’re in a medical sitch) but IF you do, you can grab replacement elements to reload and restock your MyFAK.

BRAND INFO

It is important to know what impacted the creators of MyMedic to fully understand what was behind the start of their company:

In 2010 we lost a family member when a semi-truck made a left turn as they headed home. It took approximately 30 minutes for the ambulance to arrive and our family member was gone minutes later. For years an insurance company, trucking empire, local government officials, and a judge-turned-truck-driver worked together to hide a mountain of corporate misbehavior. The truth was finally exposed. During the trial, we learned that another driver immediately stopped to help but didn’t have the right tools: a First Aid Kit.

So what did we do next? We quit our jobs, moved our families to be close together and then we started a company that we think can make a difference.
— MyMedic Crew

This powerful moment spurred the idea of the MyMedic brand and their vast amount of first aid supplies. MyMedic offers more than just first aid kits- from Med Packs to Supplies, MyMedic has you (even your pets) covered when you head out for the great outdoors...or the dog park.
